In case you missed it, one day last month, April, marked the 15th celebration of Denim Day, an annual violence prevention day focused on raising awareness about abuse and violence against women and children. Working to get everyone talking about such an important topic, many sponsors including Dasha Wellness & Spa, Moroccan Oil, and D.I.D Nail Paint helped put together an incredible event.

While studies have shown that leggings are officially the new ‘it’ item for young girls who have strayed away from jeans in favor of ‘athleisure’ pants (yes there are studies done about what type of pants young girls are wearing!). For Spring/Summer 2014, in both menswear and woman’s fashion, color has been a constant. Fashion has encompassed bold colors and patterns, richly saturated colored fabrics, and lighter pastels. Even in the category of men’s suits, there has been a deviation from the classic and traditional.
One designer who has totally embraced the “bright and bold” in menswear is Tom Ford. This line-up is from his Spring/Summer collection for 2014. From left to right, Tom Ford starts out with a deep pink/coral sports jacket that is paired with petal pink, cuffed trousers, and pink/black animal print loafers. I see this one as the least popular choice for most men. The brightly colored cobalt blue suit has a trendy sheen, a slim-tailored fit, and is accented with a patterned tie, and great white tasseled slip-ons. I could see it as an alternative to navy, if you were looking for a change.
The middle sports jacket and pants from Tom Ford combine a summer coral jacket with an exploded floral pattern pant and coral and ivory patterned shoes. I could see the jacket mixed with jeans, white linen pants, or a pair of khakis. Next, is a tonal red patterned sports jacket that has a graduated, elongated lapel and a one- button closure. It is paired with a casual, white v-neck top, black trousers, and a less busy red and ivory pair of tassel shoes. I could also see this working with or without the shoes. Lastly, Tom Ford’s floral jacket on blues and black is more of a muted pattern than some, but may still be too busy for some guys. The black pants and color matching loafers make for a very unique look.
The next set of spring/ summer suits is from Richard James and leans toward the pastel portion of the color spectrum. The first two from the left maintain a uniform look with matching colors in both the suit jacket and pants, but pop some color with their slip-on shoes. The second two takes on a more contrasted look with navy and light blue in the first and light slate blue, pink, and white in the second. Richard James brings a softer, calmer, and more summery look to his suit collections.
While getting ready to meet the fall, women start reorganizing their closets in the search for the best outfits to compliment them throughout the upcoming season. Designers say that no matter the day, the context or the job you have to do, it’s very important to look good, feel good and be trendy, even with the clothes you already have. The combinations and the accessories are this fall’s highlights and even female celebs know that. Here are some inspiring, trendy – chic outfits to turn you into a Hollywood superstar, no matter if you’re going to the office, spend a day out in town or attend a fabulous cocktail party.
The White Jacket
Together with the colder afternoons and nights comes the white jacket. This is one outfit that female celebs love to show because its versatility, it can go great with a light silk dress, stiletto shoes and a fancy belt around your waist, just as Olivia Palermo proudly wears. It can be accessorized for a day at the office and even for an elegant reception, depending on the jewelry and other adornments fit to the occasion.
One trend that is huge in both men’s and women’s fashion this Fall is leather. Whether you are talking about accessories, shoes, or jackets and coats, leather is one of the most sought-after materials in fashion. Aside from being very durable, warm, and resistant to wind, leather has the ability to last much longer than any other coat than you may have. Most jacket leathers are made from either cow or sheep skin. There are also several different types of leather used when making a men’s leather coat. Glove leather is described as a very soft and pliable leather, which is similar to the leather that gloves are made of, hence the name. Embossed leather has a pattern or image permanently stamped or pressed into the leather. Distressed leather is the process by which the leather is made to look old or “vintage”, even though it still may be perfectly new.
As the weather begins to change, begin to think about outerwear. One great transitional piece of clothing is the down vest. It offers the chest warmth when the temperature gets cooler, but without the sleeves it gives you the option of what to wear underneath. You may be someone who only needs a short sleeve shirt, or if you like to keep warmer, then a long sleeve shirt or sweater may do.
Another advantage of the vest vs. the jacket can be the increased mobility since it is sleeveless. A jacket can be restricting as far as your arm movements, but with the vest you have no restrictions at all. Most vests are filled with down feathers or polyester fiberfill. It has been said that the down filling is warmer and holds onto your body temperature better than its polyester counterpart, but I have found that a good fiberfill and it is easier to care for.
