The Red Carpet at the 2016 Golden Globes
For celebrity fashion.
On January 10th, the 73rd Annual Golden Globes was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The event is considered the kick-off to the awards season and the winners have been used in the past to gauge who will be the front-runners for the Oscars. The Golden Globes, which are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to honor excellence in TV and Film, as opposed to some of the other award ceremonies, has a little bit more of a party atmosphere with the celebrities sitting at dining tables and free to mingle during the event. There is also more of a playful fashion license when it comes to the red carpet.
For the ladies, Irish actress and model Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser in series “Outlander” is a head-turner in this sexy creation by Alexander McQueen. The black negligee-style gown is overlaid with a sheer skirt with frilly bottom and matching cap sleeves that trim the lace top. With the trend for revealing as much body parts as possible, it is refreshing to see how sexy one can look without having everything exposed. Caitriona’s pulled back hair, sparkly dangle earrings, and red lips are the perfect accompaniment.
Another unique gown was worn by Jane Fonda. She arrived to the red carpet at The Golden Globes in a couture creation by Yves Saint Laurent. Jane’s shapely figure is still evident with the dress’s full length pencil skirt, but gets lost in the textured, ruffled caplet. There is just too much going on from her chin to her waist and all I can think of is a clam shell, when looking at her.
The guys also had their fair share of poetic license when it came to fashion. American Horror Story actor Denis O’Hare made a very unusual choice in footwear to accompany his black and white check sports coat. Denis walked a little taller in these glorious platform strap sandals by Christian Louboutin, which definitely added some spice to the night.
The Rock and actor Jason Statham pulled the velvet card when choosing their tuxes for the Golden Globes. The wine color that Dwayne Johnson chose is right on trend, but it is a whole lot of velvet for a guys his size. Jason’s deep chocolate brown jacket is a nice rich tone, but I am not a fan of the shawl-collar style lapels. It just reminds me of the old “smoking jackets”

People’s Choice Awards Red Carpet Review
For celebrity fashion.
On Wednesday, January 6th, the Staples Center in Los Angeles hosted the People’s Choice Awards 2016. The event has been held annually since 1975 and recognizes actors and their work through votes from the general public. The People’s Choice honors categories like “Favorite Action Movie”, “Favorite TV Show”, and “Favorite Pop Artist”. The red carpet was teaming with celebrity nominees and their supporters, who arrived in grand style.
One of the most elegant and simplistic outfits was worn by actress Kate Hudson. The jump suit has been a huge trend and her pure white, strapless one with the wide pant legs made her look like a goddess. The waist and leg seaming gave the pantsuit just the right shape without having to be to curve hugging. Having her pant legs long enough to cover her pumps makes Kate look much taller than 5’6” and keeping her accessories simple with dangle earrings and a white barrel clutch just adds to her elegant look.
Another classic look was Chris Hemsworth, who was awarded “Favorite Action Movie Actor”. He showed that you can wow the crowd with a look that is simple. Chris had on a classic black button-down that was nicely tailored, but not too tight. He kept the “column dressing” going with his fitted black trousers and black belt. Chris did, however, throw a little trend in footwear our way with his dark brown leather shoes. I have seen footwear choices for men that are not “matchy-matchy” with the color of their outfits lately, even when it comes to suits.
One suit that was definitely “out of the box” was worn by dancer Frankie Grande. His iridescent turquoise suit had a tunic-length jacket and slim leg trousers that were certainly made of flexible fabric, in order to bust those moves. Frankie’s choice of a crisp white shirt and funkie black and turquoise shoes were definitely accessories that made his outfit pop.
Some of the gowns that graced the People’s Choice Awards were gorgeous, but the one worn by Amber Valletta of the new show “Blood and Oil”, was not one of them. Amber is a pretty woman, but even though her gown followed the popular “cut-out” trend, the color and style reminded me of an ace bandage wrapped around her. However, the Amber’s choice of the tan, gladiator wedges were cool.

Fashion at The 49th Annual CMA Awards
For celebrity fashion.
On November 4th 2015, Nashville Tennessee hosted the 49th Annual Country Music Awards at the Bridgestone Arena. Country Music artists and enthusiasts gathered together to celebrate outstanding achievements in the Country Music industry. As the red carpet was rolled out, we got a peek at the fashion wins and losses among the nominees and attendees.
Country singer Darius Rucker, formerly lead singer of American Pop band Hootie and the Blowfish, arrived on the red carpet at the CMA Awards in shades of blue with this tuxedo in a saturated cobalt blue, matching skinny tie, and blue printed pocket square. Darius off-set the blue tones with a textured charcoal grey dress shirt and black leather oxfords. It was a nice departure from the usual navy or black suits.
Another striking outfit in blue was worn by Country music singer and actress Jana Kramer, who arrived on the red carpet at the 49th Annual CMA Awards in this gorgeous, sparkling navy gown. Jana’s baby bump is tastefully accentuated and the mermaid-style dress train helps to balance out her total look. It is hard to decide if Jana’s smile or gown is the brightest and most beautiful in this pose.
One of the couples who came to celebrate one of Country Music’s biggest nights was comedian Steve Martin and his wife Anne Stringfield. Steve had on your average black suit with a little mix of brown in his plaid tie and leather shoes. The “punch-line” was definitely about Steve’s wife Anne’s outfit with her a-line, knee-length black dress that had bows at the chest line, which looked like one of those dresses that you had to make in Home Economics class. The addition of the brown leather cowboy boots that Anne chose just made her look more confusing.
The men’s award for unique look went to Randy Owens, lead singer for the group Alabama, who was marching to the beat of his own drummer in a long deep blue tuxedo jacket with bright orange cuffs, wildly printed black and white button-down, and simple black trousers.

Spook-tacular Celebrity Halloween 2015 Costumes
For celebrity fashion.
Halloween is the time of year when you get to express yourself in costume, more or less transforming yourself into whatever your imagination can dream up. Usually you will see a lot of costumes that represent what has been happening over the past year, but you will also find those ones that are classic. In the celebrity world, instead of having to dress down to avoid the paparazzi, famous people get to dress up in Halloween costumes and enjoy the day.
Melissa Rycroft of the television series The Bachelor and husband Tye Strickland are one couple that picked a cute family costume for their Halloween outing. They chose cartoon characters from the 1960’s, The Flintstones. Tye is channeling his inner Fred, while Melissa is his wife Wilma and the baby gets into it too dressing up as Pebbles Flintstone. They get a “Yaba-Daba-Doo” for these well-made costumes.
Since the new Star Wars movie will be making its debut this December, all the characters from the previous movies have made a resurgence in the costume scene. Not that they ever lost their popularity, but now there will be a new group that will be getting into the series for the first time. Late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel and his side kick Guillermo Rodriguez hit the Halloween trail in their version of Yoda and Princess Leia. Guillermo’s look is spot-on with the green pointy ears, white robe, and walking stick. Jimmy doesn’t look quite as shapely as Carrie Fisher did as Princess Leia, but he does wear the hair buns well. However, the facial hair on both men is a dead give-away.
Singer Nick Jonas, who is always on trend when it comes to fashion, picked a character from the familiar franchise McDonalds that was popular in the TV commercials in the 1970’s. The Hamburgular was always looking to hoard the hamburgers for himself. Nick Jonas is taking his role seriously with his portrayal and has the costume down pat with the brimmed black hat, mask, cape, and tie that gives us the hint of who he is. Since he was born in the 90’s, he wasn’t around to see the original Hamburgular himself

Earrings Rule the Red Carpet at 67th Emmy Awards
When it comes to the award ceremonies each year, the red carpet is where you will see what is trending in both fashion and jewelry. At this year’s 67th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 20th, it was definitely the “statement earring” that ruled the red carpet. There was so much emphasis placed on the earring that a lot of celebrity necklines remained bare, in order to let the earrings steal the show.
One example is Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who was stunning in a one-shoulder black gown. Not only was Julia a winner in the category of “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series”, but she also brought on the sparkle with her 28.78 carat white and colored diamond earrings by Chopard. They were like wearing an entire solar system of shining stars on your ears.
A similarly stunning look was worn by Sophia Vegara from Modern Family. To accessorize her curve loving, strapless metallic dress, she chose a large spiral pair of champagne diamond earrings, set in platinum, by a popular celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. The spiral shape brought much interest up to her jaw-line and golden color of the diamonds was the perfect accompaniment to her shimmering golden gown.
Aside from the splash of all diamonds, there were also some great gemstone and vintage looking earrings on this year’s Emmy Awards red carpet. Julie Bowen, also a starring actress from the hit comedy show Modern family, had a pair of deep green, organically shaped drop earrings that dangled from a sparkly diamond hoop. These and Julie’s matching ring really infused some color to her fantastic mermaid style gown.
There were also several vintage- looking statement earrings that were worn at the 2015 Emmy red carpet. Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal had on this gorgeous pair of diamond and gold lacy medallion drop earrings that were not overpowering, but still made a statement.
