Now that my last runway article highlighted some of the unique and obscure designer looks, it is only fair that I also discuss the tamer, more wearable looks for Fall 2013. One of the items that is trending big this year in men’s fashion is the “overcoat”. Created from such luxurious fabrics as Merino Wool and Cashmere, overcoats can be a fashionably versatile piece to add to your Fall/Winter wardrobe. Given these choices of fabric, expect upcoming coats to be quite expensive - using a basic bank account, which typically doesn’t include an overdraft option, isn’t the best way to go.
The first two coats are from the Ermenegildo Zegna 2013-2014 Fall Collection. The lighter grey coat on the left has more of a traditional double-breasted overcoat styling with the wider notched lapels, flap pockets, and the below-the –knee length. The charcoal grey coat on the right is more of a modern look with a wide shawl collar and ¾ zip front closure. Both styles look fantastic with dress clothes and also would look good with something a little more casual. These overcoats definitely would keep you warm during the breezy days of Fall or the icy days of Winter. As for pricing, expect to drop upwards of $1500 for either. Ouch!
Next, is a man’s overcoat by Tommy Hilfiger, which falls into the forever-popular black and white trend. This ivory thigh-length coat has a narrower lapel, a hidden button placket, flap pockets, and the surprise of a black and white plaid inner lining that gives it added interest. The matching black and white plaid pants may be a little too busy and bold for some, but a solid black or dark charcoal grey trouser would work just as well with the mixed pattern shirt. However, if you are a “spiller”, then the ivory overcoat may not be the one for you unless you don’t mind lots of trips to the dry cleaners. Though not as expensive as the Zegna’s from above, the initial purchase and all the possible dry cleaning will add up considerably.
