As far as I’m concerned, February has few redeeming qualities. It’s dreary, cold, and the holiday cheer is long gone. If I had a time machine, I’d be quite happy to skip the month entirely… except for the fact that January and February are the best months to score serious deals in the clothing department.
Forget Black Friday! It’s got nothing on the post-holiday clearance sales. Virtually all merchandisers are getting rid of last year’s stock to make room for incoming spring products, and that translates to a bargain-hunter’s wet dream. These are genuine, once in a blue moon mark-downs. This is the time to stalk your favorite brands very closely. With a little extra diligence and searching, you can re-stock your closet with lots of luxurious basics, like cashmere sweaters and silk blouses, for a fraction of the price.
One of my personal go-to stores is Talbot’s. The fashion-savvy among you might be raising an eyebrow at that last sentence—I know it’s not the hippest, most cutting edge, or glamorous brand, but don’t knock it before you’ve tried it. The displays might not be much to look at, but the products are high quality and all you have to do is pick out the best pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe.
When I went last week they where having an extra 70% off already discounted items. I found some silk shirts for $12 apiece (originally $59), and a lace pencil skirt for $25 (originally $125).
Go ahead and treat yourself: everyone deserves a bit of a pick-me-up around this time of the year. With one week of February left, you’ve got just enough time to get in on the action.
