For men's fashion.
For Spring/Summer 2014, in both menswear and woman’s fashion, color has been a constant. Fashion has encompassed bold colors and patterns, richly saturated colored fabrics, and lighter pastels. Even in the category of men’s suits, there has been a deviation from the classic and traditional.
One designer who has totally embraced the “bright and bold” in menswear is Tom Ford. This line-up is from his Spring/Summer collection for 2014. From left to right, Tom Ford starts out with a deep pink/coral sports jacket that is paired with petal pink, cuffed trousers, and pink/black animal print loafers. I see this one as the least popular choice for most men. The brightly colored cobalt blue suit has a trendy sheen, a slim-tailored fit, and is accented with a patterned tie, and great white tasseled slip-ons. I could see it as an alternative to navy, if you were looking for a change.
The middle sports jacket and pants from Tom Ford combine a summer coral jacket with an exploded floral pattern pant and coral and ivory patterned shoes. I could see the jacket mixed with jeans, white linen pants, or a pair of khakis. Next, is a tonal red patterned sports jacket that has a graduated, elongated lapel and a one- button closure. It is paired with a casual, white v-neck top, black trousers, and a less busy red and ivory pair of tassel shoes. I could also see this working with or without the shoes. Lastly, Tom Ford’s floral jacket on blues and black is more of a muted pattern than some, but may still be too busy for some guys. The black pants and color matching loafers make for a very unique look.
The next set of spring/ summer suits is from Richard James and leans toward the pastel portion of the color spectrum. The first two from the left maintain a uniform look with matching colors in both the suit jacket and pants, but pop some color with their slip-on shoes. The second two takes on a more contrasted look with navy and light blue in the first and light slate blue, pink, and white in the second. Richard James brings a softer, calmer, and more summery look to his suit collections.
The designs of multi-award winning fashion mogul Tom Ford can be seen on almost any red carpet event. Formerly the creative director of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, he launched his own line of menswear in 2006. Along with menswear, Tom Ford also has a line of beauty products, eyewear, and accessories. He even ventured out of the designer world into the film industry with his film production company “Fade to Black”, with which he made his directorial debut in 2009.
Although we are only into the beginning of 2014, designers have been working on their collections for the Fall/Winter. We will be taking a look at what is new for Tom Ford’s menswear line-up. Since “black is the new black”, you will see it in many new items for Fall. For example, this black leather motorcycle jacket has the typical styling with shorter rise and the asymmetrical zipper, but it is brought into 2014 with the quilt-like stitching around the shoulders and the fur lining, which makes it a little more versatile in the wintery weather. A “column look” is created by keeping the same color from head to toe. The slim fit of the jacket and trousers make you look long and lean. Also, the highly polished black leather boots work back to the jacket nicely.
Grey is another color that has remained in the forefront of fashion for 2013 and can be found in the Fall/Winter fashion for 2014. Tom Ford has multiple elements of grey with this chunky knit cardigan sweater, sleek grey dress trousers, and fur lined puffer overcoat.
Unique colors and textures have also been carried over to the new season of menswear. This bright navy suit is a prime example of ramping up a traditional style with a color that is rich and intense, to set it apart from the sea of black suits out there. The v-neck knit sweater and high-top sneakers give the look a nice casual appeal.
The last photo is an example of the importance of texture. This well-tailored, black Tom Ford suit is embossed with a velvet-type fabric. Even though he is dressed tonally, the embossing gives it added interest. Also, the tonal look of the jacket keeps it from being too “loud”.
Have you ever wondered what brands of sunglasses your favorite male stars are always wearing? They’ve all got impressive eyewear collections, but some brands are dominant. To each their own, right? We had a look through the wardrobes of the most popular male celebrities of the moment, and here’s what we discovered:
1. Brad Pitt loves Tom Ford sunglasses. It doesn’t matter if they’re square shaped or aviators, the actor favors the stylish label for everyday wear, as well as for the red carpet. Sometimes, he even lends them to his partner, Angelina Jolie. Sweet!
For men's fashion.
I have a suspicion that I am like many other men that once we find a fragrance we like we tend to stick with it and buy it continuously until we either receive an alternative as a gift or our scent is discontinued and we have to hunt down our new Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum!
This year I have been a huge fan of the Tom Ford for Men Eau de Toilette – I needed something for a wedding and was wandering lost around a department store until a helpful assistant pointed me in the direction of this spicy scent. Tom Ford for Men is a rich and exotic Eau de Toilette and I love the hint of black pepper which makes it a warm fragrance and one that is ideal for these winter months.
