When it comes to men’s swimwear, there has always been a wide variety of styles or each season. The multitudes of oceanic menswear choices are out there, but then it comes down to what you are comfortable in and what looks good on you. For most women, “beach season” is a stressful annual event that consists of trying on endless bathing suits, trying to find one that inspires confidence on the shore and at poolside. However, finding a great guy’s bathing suit can also have its issues.
Since the average man is not built like one of the Greek Gods, sometimes choosing a new swimsuit will also come with a few physical issues, as well as the need to be comfortable and functional. Take this set of men’s swimsuits from the well known design house of Versace. Even though the white suit on the left has built-in ruching to keep the fabric from being one-dimensional and too revealing, the style is just too diaper-ish for my taste and I’m sure that it is much pricier than a box of Huggies. Now, while the swim suit on the right is still a “closer to the body” style with a shorter rise, the black and white bold geometric design is a nice modern pattern that has some “camouflaging” capabilities.
Next, is a set of swimwear by HM. The board short and lifeguard-style trunks has always been a popular choice because you get a lot of coverage, as well as having the functionality of the ability to join in on summer sports and activities like beach volleyball, a poolside barbeque, or pulling up a table at your favorite harbor side restaurant. This style of beachwear doubles as shorts when you add a t-shirt and a pair of flip-flops. I like the bold blue plaid with the longer inseam a little better because it has a more versatile look, but some men may like the increased movement of the shorter leg length that comes with the orange HM swimsuit on the right.
For celebrity fashion.
Even though we are usually used to seeing celebrities dressed in their gowns and tuxedos, the paparazzi manages to get photos of them walking the street with their families, doing their day-to-day things, or relaxing on a beach during a vacation. So, no matter where they are, celebrities never know when they are going to end up on a magazine cover.
One celebrity couple sporting their beachwear here is Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, strolling the warms sands in Hawaii. Olivia is showing off her svelte shape in her black strapless, string bottom bikini and her husband Jason is right on trend with his micro-patterned, sage green board shorts. They both have great taste in swimsuits.
Next, is Dorchester, MA native Mark Wahlberg and his cute wife Rhea Durham. Mark looks pretty buff in his baby blue graphic men’s swim trunks and Rhea’s red and black color blocked bikini with the strategic cut-outs add some extra interest to an already stylish look.
For a little more of a Bohemian look, there is singer Ellie Goulding and boyfriend Dougie Poyner. Ellie is sporting a mixed match of a swirled blue strapless top with a tiny floral string bikini bottom. Her boyfriend Dougie’s striped head wrap, leather necklaces, stacked bracelets, and faded grey trunks fit right in to the Bohemian style.
Another actress who wears a strapless swimsuit well is Jessica Alba. This black and white bikini is a fantastic choice for her fit figure an her man’s grey elastic swimsuit I perfect for walking along the shore or joining in on a water sport or two.

Ladies who want to go to the beach fashionably, enjoy the summer lifestyle and dress elegantly need to remember that sarongs are the best all-purpose accessory for the season. Sarongs are like skirts that work with swimwear which women can enjoy during these hot months. Each style idea below takes the lady from a place she can wear her bikini comfortably to a place where she would not normally wear a bikini, but she makes this transition with sophistication.
At The Beach
Ladies who want to sun at the beach must have a stylish way to leave the beach. A confident woman can pretty much pull off any style of bikini, but the sarong and a pair of heels adds some flair to the outfit that will allow the lady to shop for the rest of the day. She can walk right down the main boulevard dressed to the nines in something most people only associate with the beach.
At A Meal
Ladies often sun at the pool and head off to lunch or dinner with friends. Wearing a sarong allows the lady to sport her gorgeous bikini along with a faux skirt. This combination is very attractive, but it is also very elegant. It is as if the lady walked off the runway of a fashion show and decided to have a bite to eat.
Ladies who have jobs at the beach are often in need of something to cover up when they are working. A bartender, waitress, photographer or lifeguard needs something that she can wear with her swimwear that helps her feel covered up. A sarong is not a full skirt, but a sarong is something that helps a lady feel like she is not exposed all during the day. This is especially helpful when she is working near the sand.
The sarong is a unique piece of clothing that is almost exclusively associated with bikinis, and it can serve ladies who work or play near the water. A woman can transform her swimwear into something that is elegant and sophisticated with just one wrap around her waist!
First off, when it comes to men’s swimwear for 2014, leading the pack are bright colors, bold stripes, florals, and micro-patterns. Even Details admits it! And who is at the forefront of producing such colorful pieces? A little company named Bluemint.
With the establishment of www.bluemint.com in 2011, the Bluemint brand has tried to create luxury collections of men’s swimwear and resort wear that is both comfortable and of the highest quality. Not only has Bluemint grown through its website and blog, but they have also strived to develop a presence through the use of social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
These Arthur Marty Orange Swim-Shorts have a saturated orange background with a multitude of white birds in flight. They come with a full elastic waistband and a tie closure with metal end caps. The pricing of these swim trunks are 77 Euros.
In looking for luxury casual wear, this brand has a few styles of men’s shorts with a tailored fit. The Gordon- The Bermuda shorts in dazzling blue comes in 100% washed cotton and has side-slit pockets, belt loops, and two back pockets. These particular shorts come in a variety of this season’s bright colors, or if you are more of a “neutral” fan, then they also have them too. At 67 Euros, they are nicely priced.
Every man also needs a selection of basic pieces in his summer wardrobe like the Edward-The Round Neck 100% cotton, lightweight jersey t-shirts. As well as this one in fiery red, there is a great selection of colors. For the price of 30 Euros each, you can have a variety of colors to get you through the entire season.
Lastly, every guy needs a great casual dress- shirt. At Bluemint Beachwear, they have a line of 100% linen, luxury resort wear shirts with a classic collar and button cuffs. Amazingly enough, the shirt can be machine washed in cold water and tumbled dry on low. Running for 50 Euros each, you can add a versatile piece to your summer closet.
Bathing suits are the one thing every fashionista seems to struggle with. Perhaps we’re too quick to jump on the newest trend rather than dressing for our own bodies… or maybe we simply don’t know what looks good on us.
Here are our ultimate cheat sheet for looking great on the beach no matter what your body shape is.
If you’re small on top:
Accentuate your chest with added volume. Several bikinis on the market today feature feisty fringe and billowing ruffles. While either are the perfect style for your shape, if you really want to add a little extra va-va-voom grab a top with heavy padding. Victoria’s Secret offers bikini tops, which like their bras, will add an extra cup-size or two.
If you’re pear shaped:
For women with larger hips it can sometimes be harder to find that right balance. Avoid bottoms with ties on the sides as they will just make your hips look bigger. Instead opt for bikini bottoms with wide sides.
If you have a large chest:
Anyone with larger breasts knows you basically buy what will hold the girls up. One of the best looks for a larger chest is a halter top with a wide band. The band helps add support to keep your girls in place while looking sultry and stylish.
If you have a boyish figure:
For ladies with straight bodies with little curves, a smaller bikini bottom with ties on the sides combined with a ruffled top is perfect for you. This style of suit will accentuate your body and leave you looking ready to take on the waves.
Now with the arsenal we gave you and the perfect swim suit in tow you’re ready to hit the beach!
