It’s that time again, Movember is upon us and the hairier men folk among us are perhaps considering growing a moustache to raise money for men’s health charities. Visit the Movember homepage to find out more about the charities and how you can get involved.
If you’re considering joining the moustache mafia this year, then you might want to read on, as we break down a full-proof skincare and shave routine.
We won’t advise you to eat some strange food that’s supposed to improve hair growth or to rub plant food into your pores. As you can’t really make your hair grow any more than it does, you have to put effort into making sure you are clean shaven everywhere but your moustache, as this will emphasise your mo as much as possible. Stick to this four-step routine and you’ll have baby-soft skin to contrast against your manly moustache.
Step 1 – Clean
Before you can shave, you need to ensure that your skin is clean, so splash a bit of lukewarm water on your face and use a gentle facial cleanser, as soap will dry your face out too much. Rinse away the cleanser and dry it with a towel.
Step 2 – Exfoliate
Only do this step every few days, as its purpose is to remove dead skin cells that build up on your skin. If you do it every day, then you’ll end up rubbing your face raw. Get a special facial exfoliator product with fine grains. Do not use a body exfoliator, as it will be too rough.
Step 3 – Shave
Use steam to open the pores on your face, as this will allow you to get a deeper, smoother shave. Shaving during or after a shower is advised because it’s usually already pretty steamy. Use a shave gel/cream/oil/etc that works for you — there’s a range of these on the King of Shaves site, who are dedicated men’s grooming experts. However, ensure that it your gel or cream is applied thinly enough so that you can see exactly what you’re doing.
Make sure that your razor is sharp, as a blunt blade can cause irritation by pulling at hairs. Getting a close shave is important, but not damaging your skin is also important, so you should always shave with the direction of growth.
Step 4 – Moisturise your skin
Gently apply a light layer of facial moisturiser, as body moisturisers can be too heavy. Post-shave balms are also great as they are designed specifically for this job.
Good luck with your mo this Movember. We hope you grow a glorious soup strainer and make a lot of money for charity along the way.
Even though clothes can “make the man”, grooming is an important part of the total look. You can have the most updated, expensive wardrobe, but if your grooming products are not of good quality and you don’t put equal weight on your hair and face, then you are not looking as good as you can. At Uppercut Deluxe Shop, you will find a range of natural hair care, shaving, and styling products to keep you in tip-top shape.
Since cleansing and conditioning is the first step to great looking hair and skin, Uppercut has an Essentials Wash Kit that contains a set of natural shampoo and conditioner, combined with a bar of goat’s milk soap and of course, a black pocket comb for $36.64.
The next step in a good looking face is shaving, unless you have opted for the bearded look and even then you need to neaten it up around the edges. At Uppercut Delux they have an all natural shaving cream for $15 with menthol and coconut oil, to be followed by the “Aftershave Moisturizer” that will keep skin smooth, soft, and shrink up the pores. Just make sure that you invest in a good razor to get the “barbershop-like” results.
Lastly, in order to complete the look, hair styling is key. At www.uppercutdeluxeshop.com, they have a selection of hair styling products, whether you need a little taming of “not going anywhere” hair. This chart will help you determine which product is right for you and the prices range from $12-$18. One celebrity who could use the “Monster Hold” styling paste, if he doesn’t already, is Bruno Mars. His high piled style would stay up where he needs it and is sweat resistant for performing in any venue.
‘New Year, new you’ is a phrase that rears its ugly head but once a year. Admittedly it would be a great time to start a fresh but all your good New Year intentions should ‘start as you mean to go on’ – the same goes for your skin. All the late nights drinking what’s left of the Christmas beer stash and indulging in only the most festive of foods until post-party season your hair and body is screaming for a detox! We take a look at the top 5 grooming products to banish any signs of the good nights that have gone and will bring your hair and body into the New Year with a fresh start. You can find these great products at Brummells of London as well as other online stores.
For Your Face
Every shave is important; we trust you’ll already have found the razor of your dreams that works harmoniously with your skin. Now you’ve got that under wraps it’s time to consider other care. Your skin is more prone to breakouts, razor burn and itching after an eventful month of food and alcohol.
The natural balance of your skin may be a little off the scale – for this we of course recommend man’s best friend – water. Keeping hydrated can help maintain a healthy glow and give your skin that revival it may need. In the long run a hydrated body is a happy body, one that can repair and rejuvenate skin whilst it sleeps.
We recommend two grooming products that will change your shaving experience forever:
Pre-shave – Jack Black Face Buff Energising Scrub

Braun, which is a company that has been making personal grooming devices for years, has come up with a new collection of shavers and trimmers called the Cruzer, which is a system for the grooming needs of a man who takes hair very, very seriously. Again, their target man requires more versatility from his shaver to accentuate the definition of his modern hairstyles and facial hair. We had the chance to try out the Face version on a dude seeking a manly yet nuanced beard.
When the weather turns cooler, the beginning of fall is signaled. This also means that it is time to do away with the clean-shaven looks of summer, and embrace a few of the latest trends in facial hair styling. This fall season, a variety of styles are in that will suit any man’s personality and personal style. However, it is important to remember that the cooler, drier air of fall also means that it is time to step up the shaving regimen to include techniques that will help to keep skin in top condition well into the colder seasons. For any man who is looking to add some flair to his shaving routine, the following tips are offered to help create a unique look while keeping skin soft and moisturized.
Like I’ve said a million times before, fashion is about more than the clothes you wear. Neglect your face the proper attention, whether by using inferior skincare products or shaving materials, and you’ll regret the rough skin and splotchy complexion. I recently received a kit of shaving cream, face scrub lotion, and moisturizer from the Liz Earle Naturally Active line and, as you can tell, I was more than willing to scrutinize.
I was overall very impressed by what Liz Earle delivered. For one, the shaving cream was very silky and therefore easy to apply to my four-day stubble, which isn’t the case with more foamy creams. As for how well it came off, I got most of each patch of hair with a single swipe. Golden.
I massaged in the face scrub after finishing with my razor and waited to see if it helped with the unavoidable razor burn and irritation. Happily, my cheeks ended up feeling smoother than usual and, more importantly, the redness disappeared a little. It also breathed some new life into the underside of my bottom lip, a haven for chapness – who would’ve thought?
I got around to trying the moisturizer a couple of days later; this was the only part of the kit that didn’t leave me in awe. Though it certainly prevented my skin from dryness, the cream just didn’t conduct that coolness I’m so grateful for from my Ahava. But, hey, two out of three ain’t bad at all. Go to the Naturally Active Men’s Skincare website and give their quality applications a gander.
