After a great trip to LA, we arrived back at LAX about four hours early for our return flight. While we were hanging around at Gladstones, relaxing and killing some time, we had the perfect view of passengers coming and going. Normally, you expect to see guys dressed up in suits, flying to and from their business meeting destinations, but I noticed that a lot of travelers were mixing the tailored crispness of a sports jacket with more casual clothing items to create a great look.
One gentleman that stood out of the crowd was wearing the perfect navy blue blazer with medium width lapels, trimmed in gold buttons on the front closure and the sleeves. He had coordinated it with a crisp white button-down shirt, which he kept with an open collar, and a pair of belted khakis. The brown leather loafers were also the perfect compliment to his look. It was a style that I could see coming from the pages of the Ralph Lauren catalogue.
There are a lot of men’s jackets out there, begging for you to buy them for the chilling winter. And a plethora of solid brands behind them: Blacks, Adidas, etc.But while many of them fit the bill functionally, not all of them work fashionably. Allow me to explain:
Check out this Adidas jacket for winter use. Now, I really like the Colorado Wind Jacket’s sturdy, high collar since snow tends to sneak in around my neck and that gets annoying. It also provides pretty solid protection from the cold and is lightweight. But it could use something else in the aesthetics department. Really now, repeating white Adidas logo patterns? Not exactly chic… I’m thinking that zipper will start looking dirty quickly too.
This Adidas Originals Trefoil Field Jacket, however, will protect you from the element while looking great too. The storm flap ensures comfort and warmth and the ribbed cuffs help prevent snow from getting into your sleeves. As for style, the solid-color checkers give the piece a nice texture and the tasteful logo and shiny clasps give it detail. And can you believe it’s 100% polyester?! Who said artificial could never be quality…
INFEASIBLE: Bomber jackets with fur collars
Bomber jackets aren’t the classiest outerwear out there, but some work (see below). And then there are bombers with furry collars which take the ‘cl’ out of ‘class’. This jacket especially, what with its nauseating color. Gentlemen, fur and you spells danger, leave it to the ladies to wear.
…why is Zappos selling jackets anyway?
Feasible: Twill bomber jackets
(Brought to you by Bluefly)
I’d love to wear a bomber like this on a chilly Sunday night. With a mojito. That’s the trendy drink these days, by the by.
INFEASIBLE: Long, gray wool jackets
I haven’t a clue what’s going on with this piece. It looks like a bath robe mixed with some kind of striped suit jacket, with a dash of ugly. And it’s 15 hundred dollars. Tsk, tsk.
Feasible: Espresso-colored wool jackets

Now this is a thing of beauty. Love the collar, love the cut, goes with anything. And much cheaper – $300.
INFEASIBLE: Biker Motorcycle jackets
Nobody looks badass in biker jackets anymore – maybe it’s because of Nicolas Cage??
Feasible: Fly-boy jackets
(Brought you by LeatherJackets.com)
Leather is still a baller material though. Check out this flyboy: It’s fucking (tastefully) vintage and it’s fucking sharp. Match it up with something like this and you’ll be more hardcore than any Hell’s Angel.
