Now that Summer is here, it is time to protect yourself from the sun with a great hat. Men’s hats not only have a purpose, but also are a trendy fashion accessory. One style of hat that is “in” for both men and women this year is the fedora (unfortunately).
We are used to seeing this thin-brimmed and molded crown type of hat in heavier fabrics like wool and leather, but for the warmer seasons the Fedora is lightened up by using woven straw and sometimes brighter ribbons to add interest to a casual summer outfit. Ones like these in brown, black, tan, and white are a popular, neutral accessory and these days can be worn by a man or a woman.
Another style of men’s hats that is back in fashion this year is the Bucket hat. It basically is made to look just like an over-turned bucket, but comes in many different colors and patterns. For example, Justin Beiber is photographed here with his bandana, shades, and Cochella black and white patterned bucket hat. The hat not only looks kinda cool, but also will give maximum sun protection to your ears, forehead, and hairline.
If you are a fan of the baseball-style hat, but are looking for something with a little more fashion, then you may be interested in the army-military type of cap. You get the same brim as the baseball cap, but the crown of the cap is squared off, in almost a pill-box shape. This one that is done in a grey fabric has the name-engraved side buttons for an accent, along with the round metal vents for keeping cool when it is hot.
One style of men’s hats that I am not too fond of is this wide-brimmed floppy hat by Burberry. The dark one reminds me of a hillbilly and the light blue floppy hat is just a bizarre color and shape. I can also imagine that being Burberry, it is not a very inexpensive item either.
Every year I look forward to a week’s vacation on Cape Cod. Not only are the beaches beautiful and the fashion style in Cape Cod, it would be a combination of preppy and casual elegance. There are some places on Cape Cod that are a more relaxed, summertime kind of vibe and others that are a little more dressy.
A perfect wardrobe for sightseeing, shopping in the unique stores and boutiques, or grabbing a steaming bowl of clam chowder at an outside café consists of pieces like this blue check button-down shirt, a comfy pair of cargo or chino shorts with a braided leather belt, and the ever-popular leather boat shoes. Some key accessories that help to complete the Cape Cod casual look are the straw fedora, brown leather wrist watch, and cool aviator sunglasses. Also, this green plaid button down shirt, white cotton summer pants, and boat shoes make a comparable alternative.
If you happen to be invited to the Kennedy compound for cocktails or are hanging out at one of the posh restaurants on the shore, then a look that is a little dressier would be appropriate. Here, is a navy sports jacket by Royal Hem, a crisp white button-down, tan slim leg trousers by Hermes of Cape Cod, and a terrific pairs of two-tone blue Alberto Morretti loafers.
Of course, this outfit deserves a fantastic watch like this Hermes Basel Cape Cod Moonphase Watch with a croco-embossed British tan leather band, gleaming hands and numbers, with a unique moon phase dial for added interest.
There are all kinds of occasions when celebrities walk the red carpet like movie premiers, award ceremonies, and charity events. Recently, during July 24-27, one of the huge annual events took place: Comic-Con San Diego. It is a celebration of the art of comics and all things associated with the characters and stories.
This year at Comic-Con there were some very stylish looks to grace the red carpet. First off are two of the stars from the popular TV series Grimm: David Giuntoli and Bitsie Tulloch. David is sporting a charcoal grey, double breasted window pane plaid suit with an open-neck white button-down that is sharp, but still understated. Bitsie looks elegant in her spaghetti strap evening gown with the gold accents and the diagonal stripe for interest.
Next, is actress Holland Roden from the TV series Teen Wolf. Holland is rocking one of the hot trends of this season: Jumpsuits. Her slim figure is perfect for the cut of the black fabric jumpsuit and the contrasting chest panel gives the illusion of a plunging neckline, without the fuss. Her sleek hairstyle and her golden metallic clutch just add the perfect accents Holland’s look.
Last, but not least, was actor and playwright Nelson Ellis arriving at Comic-Con San Diego. Nelson and his friend are all about color. Two trending colors this season are green and wine. Nelson’s green patterned button-down is paired with a deep teal green pair of trousers and he uses brown as an accent color in his fedora, bow tie, belt, and shoes. His friend’s wine colored pants is a bold choice and is set off by the crisp white shirt with black accessories of his tie and loafers.
