Ever wonder how People Magazine chooses their candidates for “Sexiest Man Alive”? The annual tradition was started in 1985 with Mel Gibson and has continued with the editors of People Magazine keeping a watch for celebrity men who have that certain physical appeal, romantic flirtiness, and universal appeal that keeps them in the public eye all year round. It is all about the “mystery” when it comes down to fueling the fire of sexiness.
For 2015, People Magazine picked former footballer, brand model, and family man David Beckham. Even though he has retired from soccer, he is still at the top of his game. David has the smoky sultriness that is attracts attention. He is certainly no stranger to fashion. Whether he is photographed on the red carpet in LA, out on the streets of London, or hustling through the airport with his family, he has a style that is both modern and eye-catching.
Looking “red carpet ready”, David Beckham is dressed in a black, one-button tuxedo from designer Tom Ford. It is tailored nicely over his shoulders and chest with details of wide, to the waist lapels. David accessorizes with a crisp white dress shirt, black bow tie, and a pair of shiny leather dress shoes. Even if he wasn’t nominated for anything at the event, he is still a winner with this look.
Being a family man with 3 sons and 1 daughter, is also part of David Beckham’s attractiveness. In this photo, he is out for an ice cream with his adorable daughter Harper. David’s casual look includes a great denim button-down, black skinny jeans, and white sneakers. The grey knit cap and sunglasses hanging from the neckline are the perfect modern accessories. David does have some competition in the fashion department with his daughter Harper’s leggings, grey print skirt, and metallic ballerina flats.
Last, but not least is the “brand model” David Beckham who is looking rugged in a plum colored plaid shirt, a dark taupe quilted vest, and mud splattered blue jeans. He even manages to make motorcycle trail riding a fashionable thing.
When sports figures like Tom Brady, David Beckham, and LeBron James are in the game the “uniform” rules, however when they are off the field, they get to choose from an endless list of designers for their casual wear. From suits and sports jackets when they are headed to away games in different cities, to jeans and t-shirts when they are out with their families, these guys like to look good.
Tom Brady, the star quarterback for the New England Patriots, may have not been so “fashion conscious” when he was a rookie in the National Football League, but today, he is much more fashion forward with his hairstyle and clothing. Here is a photo of him trekking through a neighborhood, paparazzi in tow, in a navy blazer with a brown graphic t-shirt, complimentary plaid scarf, and worn blue jeans. Tom accessorizes well with his Aviator sunglasses, but they are not much of a disguise. And, arguably, Tom’s gotten so good at looking good, his has become one of the most popular NFL jerseys by sheer association!
The next celebrity sports figure who is as well known for his fashion, as he is for his soccer career. David may have retired in 2013, but his fan base certainly has not diminished. He is photographed here with his fashion designer, former “Spice Girl” wife Victoria at Wimbledon. David looks sharp in his blue double breasted, nicely tailored sports jacket with ornamental gold buttons on the cuffs, as well as the body. He compliments the jacket nicely with a crisp white button-down shirt and micro-check, matching tie. David’s tan trousers also keep the look casual, but pulled together. His wife Victoria is also blending well with his style, in her multi-colored, patchwork sundress that was most likely designed by her.
Finally, a guy that is pretty hard to miss because of his size, even when he is off the court without his uniform is LeBron James. He shows his love for the “Fedora” in this photo from his GQ spread. The dark brown wool fedora with the wide grosgrain ribbon adds panache to his camel colored v-neck sweater with the ombre effect and rolled-cuff dress shirt. I bet that the sweater is in a luxury fabric like cashmere and I like the bold brown leather watch as an accessory.
When it comes to Spring and Summer, it’s not only time to change out the wardrobes, but also time to take a look at what’s new in footwear. There is nothing worse than freshening up your clothes with a few new items and leaving your old, worn-out shoes to bring down the look.
This year, some of the top designers have revealed their men’s footwear collections for Spring and Summer. The first pair is from the design house of Jimmy Choo. It is an update on an old favorite: The Boat Shoe. This iconic, nautical shoe style has been enhanced with a more textured navy leather upper and a dark stitching along the white sole for interest. I could see them with your favorite jeans and a white polo shirt.
Next, is a pair of light grey lace-ups by Emporio Armani. With these shoes, texture is the key to what makes them interesting. The thick white sole looks like it would make a comfortable walking shoe, but I probably would wear them with a darker trouser to make them stand out.
Another one of my favorites in a slip on shoe style is this brown, black, and orange camouflage pair by Givenchy. Camo is a huge trend in all accessories this year and these will be the focal point of any neutral outfit.
One look in men’s Summer footwear that never seem to go out of style is the Gladiator-style sandals. This pair by Dolce & Gabbana offers plenty of foot coverage with the laced-up leather overlapping from the toes to the arch of the foot and leather heel support. This look would be a great pair of khaki cargo shorts or more dressed up with a pair of white linen pants.
Lastly, if you are more of a minimalist when it comes to Summer footwear, then the David Beckham endorsed K-Swiss flip flops with the multi-colored rubber sole and black fabric thong straps may do the trick.
Guys with little to no fashion sense can learn a lot from the following five dudes. These 5 guys are 2013’s most fashionable male celebrities. They’ve got the swagger, the sharp ties and an ability to make it appear effortless – even in a three-piece suit. Ladies swoon over these dudes, so maybe infusing a little of their style into your wardrobe will offer you the chance to be with someone like Cameron Diaz or Jessica Biel.
I know you’re hurt and all, Dave, but that’s no excuse for dressing like a slob. I can’t believe Victoria lets you hobble around wearing Grandpa’s wool overshirt on top of a sweatshirt. Weren’t you supposed to be dapper (I never believe that rumor)? Nice hat, btw.
And gents, remember to check out our contest for a men’s wedding ring!!
