Every year there are certain colors that are more prominent in fashion, like this year’s Pantone’s selection of Emerald Green as the color of the year, but from season to season black is definitely the new black. The color black never seems to lose its appeal in either men’s or women’s fashion. It just get’s revitalized with new tones and textures, and works on everything from a Volcom hoodie to a pair of hugo boss shoes.
One place that I noticed the black theme is the Runway line-ups for designers scheduled to be at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC from September 5th to the 12th. On September 5th, Nicolas K, a NY based design company is showing menswear that incorporates a modern/classic look. They take the classic hoodie with matching pull-on pants and take it to the next level with the lighter charcoal bodice, dark knit hood and collar, billowing midsection, and fingerless gloves. His trousers are straight leg in cut and are tucked into some lace-up black boots. The mono-tone black outfit is brought to life with tonal color blocking.
The second black-on-black outfit at the MB fashion week is from Nautica, who is scheduled to have their runway show on September 6th. The menswear starts with a textured charcoal knit sweater that is paired with a hooded black overcoat, and slim-leg black trousers with lace-up boots. In this fashion scenario, the texture of the sweater is key in bringing life to the look.
Last, but not least is, is the patchwork black top and trouser combination slated by Lacoste, who is slated to be on the runway at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week on September 7th. In this photo, the leather-like base fabric is accented with a suede-like neckline, chest, and upper thigh area of the pants. Even though the overall color scheme is still “black”, the use of strategically placed alternate materials gives it a modern look. Best part?: These sleek dark pants will make any chic pair of shoes, from mens Ralph Lauren trainers to Lucchese brown leather boots, pop!
So, hold on to your black wardrobe pieces longer than others because they can easily be revived and never go out of style!
