Men’s Fashion Advice – Keep Up With Scents and Fragrances

I have a suspicion that I am like many other men that once we find a fragrance we like we tend to stick with it and buy it continuously until we either receive an alternative as a gift or our scent is discontinued and we have to hunt down our new Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum!

This year I have been a huge fan of the Tom Ford for Men Eau de Toilette – I needed something for a wedding and was wandering lost around a department store until a helpful assistant pointed me in the direction of this spicy scent. Tom Ford for Men is a rich and exotic Eau de Toilette and I love the hint of black pepper which makes it a warm fragrance and one that is ideal for these winter months.

My bottle of Tom Ford (a beautiful looking bottle) is close to running out and I will be buying a top-up straight away but I thought it would be worth looking some other recommended fragrances for men that are available and will leave you smelling irresistible.

Hugo Boss has been producing Eau de Toilette for men for a number of years and you can always rely on Hugo Boss to produce a great smelling aftershave and one that will be a go-to-scent for months on end! If you are looking for a woody, masculine scent then you need look no further than the Hugo Man EDT which is one of the brand’s classic fragrances. An alternative to the classic is the Hugo Orange Man fragrance that has a vanilla note and an apple fruit note to complement the woody scent.

The sensuously named Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum looks like it could be a great alternative to my favourite. The luxury is delivered by a blend of black truffle, ylang, lotus wood and vetiver amongst other notes; for men looking for a spicy scent this could be the ideal Eau de Parfum for 2013.

Jo Malone is a brand that I had not associated with men’s fragrances but I was pleased to find that they have a couple of exciting looking Eau de Colognes and the one that really grabbed my attention was the Blackberry & Bay Cologne with its blackberry juice and fresh sounding blend of scents. This could definitely be an alternative to the traditional men’s fragrance brands. Speaking of alternatives there is a great list of recommended scents from The Independent which highlights some other scents that aren’t the usual suspects.

I personally seem to be drawn towards the woody and rich scents so here is another Eau de Toilette that features both wood and leather. Beautifully packaged, this elegant bottle will sit proudly in any bathroom or bedroom and a few squirts will leave you feeling and smelling a million dollars.

Forget about the James Bond 007 scent I think any confident man will find much to love in the Opus 1870 Eau de Toilette from Penhaligons. Once again this may not be your obvious choice but this luxurious scent is created from a blend of rare ingredients. The bottle itself is a work of art and is based on William Penhaligon’s original design. This fragrance will be one for special occasions but heads and noses will turn as you glide past.

The world of men’s fragrances is an exciting one to explore; some scents are rich and exotic while others are more subtle and delicate (this isn’t a negative). Take your time when shopping to experiment and test and once you find your perfect fragrance use wisely and remember not to drench yourself in it!
