Men’s Fashion Advice: Faded jeans or dark tones: Which ones will rock next year?

We all know that jeans are a classic staple in men’s fashion. Jeans for men are always in style, and always an important part of a man’s wardrobe. Denim styles are constantly changing, but the importance of a good pair of jeans in a man’s fashion rotation will never go away. So what jeans should you be wearing next year? When it comes to your jeans, the options are as varied as your imagination. Dark jeans, faded, distressed, torn, slim fit, wider leg, colored, and so on. What pair of jeans you should wear depends on the occasion, season, and your mood. Your personal style can influence your denim choices, but if you are a fashion conscious individual, you want to make sure you’re up to date. We’ll provide you with the knowledge you need about mens designer jeans, so you can make the best choice possible.

Dark wash jeans should be a wardrobe staple. A dark wash is forever flattering, and, while jeans are by no means formal wear, definitely makes for dressier pant than a faded pair of jeans. Dark jeans are slimming and create a sleek, stylish look. You can dress down your dark wash jeans during the day with a simple fitted t-shirt or a casual button down. Throw a sport coat or a sweater on for evening, and you’re ready to hit the town. You can keep this look simple or accessorize with a scarf hat, sunglasses, and so on. Dark jeans are great for any activity- from kicking around town to date night. Jeans are perfect year round, and dark jeans work perfectly for all seasons.

Faded jeans are a great summer item. They are lighter in colour and often in weight, and provide the brightness that is sought after in any summer outfit. Faded jeans won’t weigh down your look in the summer. You can keep things bright and airy with a lighter wash denim. Faded jeans should mimic the pattern of fading that would take place through daily wear. High contrast fading- meaning dark denim with very light fading and whiskering- is out. This style will make you look like you’re trying too hard, when what you actually want from your jeans is a casual look and easy wear. If you go for a distressed jean, keep it simple. Leave the shredded legs to the rock stars, and look for those jeans with distressing that looks natural, not forced. They should have fading that would naturally occur.

At the same time, don’t write off faded jeans for fall. Autumn styles are generally based on a warm colour scheme- homey colours that are accentuated by a worn in jean. Pair your faded jeans with comfortable sweaters, corduroy blazers, tweed, and other lived-in looking items. Neutral browns, dark beiges, coppers, and other warm tones are fantastic for autumn!

A great option for the denim connoisseur is raw denim. Raw denim is denim that has not gone through a washing process after being dyed. This leaves the material to fade naturally over time, giving the jeans an authentic lived-in look. Raw denim jeans will fade according to their wearer. This means that each pair will be slightly different, and will be affected by the person’s body type and daily activities. Often, owners will not wash these jeans for up to six months to ensure the best fading process possible.

If you choose to wear a denim jacket for those cool summer evenings or crisp fall days, make sure you do not match your top to your bottoms. If your jacket is faded, ensure that you are wearing darker wash jeans. If your jacket is dark, lighter jeans are appropriate. Feel free to avoid the full denim look all together, pairing any wash denim jacket with chinos, khakis, corduroy pants, or another contrasting color pants. Matching denim is definitely not something that a fashion forward man wants to be rocking.

Now that you’re equipped with the knowledge of denim styles that you need, you can go out with confidence. Know that you look good, and nothing goes better with your jeans than confidence. We’ve set you up with the basics- put your own spin on your denim for a look that’s uniquely you.
