One of the biggest movie premiers of the summer season is “The Butler”, directed by Lee Daniels and written by Daniel Stray. It is a historically based film about a White House butler named Cecil Gaines, who served there between 1952 and 1986, who saw many changes in America first hand. The movie stars a host of celebrities in the cast including Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Vanessa Redgrave, and Mariah Carey. For the NYC premier, they were out in style.
First, is Terrence Howard, who steps up his tuxedo choice with a tonal paisley, embossed design throughout the body of the jacket. It is accented by plain black lapels, a jet black tie, and a classic white dress shirt and pocket square. The tuxedo is a throw-back to the Vintage “smoking jacket”. It looks like he has the matching trousers, which may be a little much for some guys. Notice how he chose to rock a bracelet instead of a watch – not the wisest move on his part. Why not rock a fancy piece such as an Oris watch, the likes of which are readily available at the Branded Watch Shop? Those wafer studs just look tacky as sin.
Next, are Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. Nick is channeling the “Rat Pack” days with his black fedora, mono-tone suit and dress shirt that has just a peak of white with the pocket square. If you have seen and clips from “America’s Got Talent”, then you know that Nick Cannon is the best dressed M.C. in television. His wife Mariah adds to his “cool” with her curve-hugging black dress, lace pumps, and black studded leather arm sling to try to let her dislocated shoulder blend in.
The last photo on the Red Carpet is of Cicely Tyson and Lenny Kravitz. She is trending with her grey floral and lace combo dress, while Lenny is “marching to the beat of his own drum” with his long-tailed black tuxedo jacket, un-tucked white dress shirt, black leather shiny trousers, and spike studded grey high-heeled boots. Of course, you have to top that outfit off with a dark pair of shades!
