Celebrity Fashion Trends – Gala for the Fashion Exhibit at the Met

Recently this month was the opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s Fashion Exhibit in NYC. The Costume Institute kicks off the event with the Met Gala party, which is considered by some people to be the “party of the year.” The theme in 2013 for the fashion exhibit is “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”

Punk is a unique culture that is remembered well as part of the 1970’s and 1980’s. It brought forth musical groups like the Ramones, Billy Idol, and Blondie. The Punk Era was dominated by spikey hair, harsh make-up, and studded leather clothing. There were many celebrities who embraced the punk theme for this year’s gala.

Interestingly enough, many of the ladies who donned rebellious garb figured out a way to integrate some fancy but still counter mainstream dress rings – check out Anne Hathaway’s adornments below for a taste. Just goes to show you that disparate styles can be fashionably married – and what’s more punk than mixing of aesthetics? Olivia Wilde could have easily rocked this emerald and diamond gold dress ring from Swag and joined the creative party. That said, Olivia did look fantastic in that strapless, slim-fitting bone-colored gown with cut-outs in all the right places.

One guy who took the uniqueness of the costume party to a new level was Olivia Wilde’s new fiancé Jason Sudeikis had a fairly three- piece suit on with a crisp white shirt, black bowtie, red pocket square, and a pair of track shoes. Really?

Another celebrity who always stands out with his unique fashion and dance style is PSY. His Gangnam style for the Met Gala was a cropped red and black checkered one-button jacket that is paired with “dance friendly” black trousers, a French cuffed white dress shirt, and some “killer” black and white wing-tipped shoes.

Another lady who captured an absolutely stunning look was pulled off by Anne Hathaway. With her short- cropped blonde hair, inspired by Debbie Harry of “Blondie”, Anne rocks the look of the vintage black burn-out Valentino with its sexy cut-outs and feathered cuffs.

The female celebrity who was totally absorbed by the punk rock theme was Madonna. She is sporting a grey plaid wrap jacket by Givenchy that is adorned with geometric metal squares across the shoulders, cuffs, and hemline. She pumps up the look with some fishnet, chains, and a little cleavage. However, she loses me with the pink pumps and thigh high stockings. It is either just “Madonna style” or it is just an excuse to not wear pants.
