Recently, an event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which benefits the Met’s Costume Institute. It is also the opening event for the institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year of the gala has a theme and this year was, “Charles James, Beyond Fashion”. Charles James is well known in the fashion industry for his approach to design through sculpture.
With the Met Gala, comes a red carpet that rivals any West Coast event. Some fashion looks on the Met Gala’s red carpet were classic and some were more “artistic”. At the top of the list of fashionable couples are Beyonce and Jay Z. Beyonce looked glamorous in her sheer Givenchy couture gown that was a throw-back to a look from the 1970’s Motown Era. The sheer beaded panels of her dress showed her figure, but covered what needed to be. Also, the vintage head netting and dark maroon lips added just the right touch. Beyonce’s husband Jay Z looked dashing in his James Bond style white tuxedo jacket and black trousers.
Another fashionable couple was NY Nick’s basketball player Carmelo Anthony and his wife Lala. Carmelo sported a navy tuxedo jacket with tails, black trousers, and matching top hat, but popped the classic look with an orange poppy colored boutonniere. His wife Lala, shows off her hourglass figure in this long sleeve, eggplant colored gown with open neckline and bodice cut-out. She also opted for a darker, more dramatic lip color.
Last, but not least, was David and Victoria Beckham. They strolled the Met Gala red carpet in classic black and white. Like Jay Z, David chose the “007” look and pulled it off quite well with his nicely tailored ivory jacket and contrasting black pants. His wife Victoria looked elegant in her matching ivory, simply cut strapless gown, but I think she could have gone a little easier on the eye makeup.
