When I was 8 years old I gave my father a “cane” which was basically a stick that I had made into a walking stick. I spent hours looking for a good size, sturdy, straight stick. I used my Cub Scout knife that I got when I earned my Whittlin’ Chip and carved it down. I told him he could use it when he got old. When he gave it a test run he got multiple splinters in his hand. I was devastated and cried for ruining Father’s Day. Later that day he showed me sanding.
